Description du lot
A MAGNIFICENT jewel! Truly on the cusp of a full SUPERB GEM grade, the eye appeal on this early half dime is off the charts! There are not many times in your numismatic life when you can buy a 226 year old obsolete SUPERB GEM coin-period. This spectacular coin is one of the FINEST LM-9s that exist. While listed as Rarity-4, this is one of the more available of the 10 different 1795 die marriages, it is VERY RARE at this lofty state of preservation. This GEM has an exquisite and brilliant luster that highlights the majestic toning on both sides. The obverse has a pale peach-rose-gold in the centers flowing to blue and deeper orange at the rims. The reverses is awash in a dazzling blue, with splashes of teal, violet, and coppery-orange. The obverse is razor sharp in the centers, weakening the definition at the dentils. The reverse has some minor adjustment marks that were not fully struck out, some areas are very sharp, while again, others are more blunt in definition. The obverse is shattered with multiple die cracks, clashes, and other characteristics that add much to the charm of this GEM. PCGS 9, NGC 7, CAC 6. We sold the two most recent PCGS MS66 CAC 1795 half dimes, realizing $79,313 in December 2019 and $76,375 in September 2018. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $87,500 and the CAC CPG value is $93,800. Just a handful have ever graded finer, and few can match this GEM in terms of stunning visual allure. This is an ideal coin for a SUPERB type set or special box of 20. Bidding will be fierce for this lovely PQ GEM! Cert. Number 82603389 PCGS # 4251
