1842-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 8-G. Large Date, Large Letters. VF-25 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. Generally detail and light honey-gold color provide strong eye appeal for the assigned grade. This is the scarcer of the two major varieties of the 1842-D half eagle, Doug Winter (2013) estimating that only 15,824 of the 59,608-piece mintage were of the Large Date, Large Letters variety. Our offerings have been few over the years, especially in comparison to its Small Date counterpart. A significant find for the specialist that would do nicely in many Southern gold cabinets.
