Lot Description

An unusual variant of a copper Paris Mint restrike from this era, the (pointing hand) CUIVRE mark is stamped at 6 o'clock on a plain edge, as opposed to a reeded edge as cataloged for the W-9155 attribution in the Whitman colonial coin Encyclopedia. Frosty to semi-reflective surfaces are sharply defined and toned in warm chestnut-brown. Both sides are double struck, most clearly seen around the peripheries, although this feature is not noted on the NGC insert.
