Description du lot
1883-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-63 PL (NGC). OH. Frosty motifs. The obverse field is a glittering mirror. The reflectivity of the reverse field is somewhat subdued due to the presence of die finishing lines. The central areas are brilliant with wisps of rose and blue at the rims. An elusive issue in MS-63 and higher grades despite a generous mintage of more than 6.2 million pieces. Presumably the 1883-S was very hard hit by the massive silver dollar meltings that took place during the early decades of the 20th century. Comparatively few 1883-S dollars have received a "PL" designation from NGC; notably, that firm has certified fewer than 20 PLs and DPLs as MS-63 or finer.
