Lot 346 1853 N-5 R2- PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved.Frosty light olive and bluish steel with nearly 10% of both sides showing mint color. The surfaces are satiny and lustrous, but the luster is a bit subdued by a thin layer of natural oxidation. The only notable marks are a small nick on the truncation over the left side of the 8, another on the right side of the 5, and some dirt nestled inside the N in UNITED. LDS, die state d, with a die crack from the left top of the M to the dentils over the adjacent A in AMERICA. The earlier die lines from the inner curl are gone. Our grade is MS62, tied for CC#7 for the variety but second finest of the late die state in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
