- 1797 Draped Bust Cent. S-139. Rarity-1. Reverse of 1797, Stems to Wreath. VF-30 (PCGS).
Handsome tobacco-brown surfaces are warmly and evenly toned. Uniformly denticulated borders around both sides point to an ideally centered strike, which also imparted sharp detail to the design that remains to a considerable degree for an early date large cent that saw moderate commercial use. Microscopically rough, yet pleasingly smooth in hand, this is a very respectable mid grade example of the variety.
Provenance: Ex Tom Reynolds; Early Copper Coins, September 2011.
PCGS# 1422. NGC ID: 2242.
