Lot Description

This is a pleasing early date large cent for the grade, the surfaces cleaned ago, although retoned nicely in medium to steel-brown with some good gloss evident. The strike is tight to 12 o'clock on the reverse, obverse better centered, with universally sharp EF detail throughout the design. One will require a loupe to see some wispy marks and a trace of ancient verdigris; the in-hand appearance is pleasingly smooth. As of 2014, this coin was ranked CC#4 for the S-165 dies in the Bland census with an EAC grade of VF25, and CC#6 in the Noyes census with an EAC grade of F15.
