A “perfect” example for the grade! Rich bluish-slate toning in the fields fades to light dove on the devices, creating a highly desirable circ-cam look. Hints of gold can be seen in the peripheral devices. Bold details remain despite the 40 grade points of wear. The reverse shows a few ancient scratches hidden in the stars and toned over. For a VF coin, this coin has eye appeal for days! The LIBEKTY variety is represented by a single die marriage, LM-3. The variant was created when the engraver used an “R” punch that was broken at the loop, in the end looking more like a K than an R. Always a popular variety as it has been included in the Red Book for many years. PCGS 5, NGC 1, CAC 1. The last time a VF20 coin sold in auction was back in June 2006, realizing $3,220. More recently, an NGC F15 sold for $2,990 in 2011. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $3,250, which may prove low once this coin is sold.
