Lot Description
This is a fantastic near-GEM that is totally original and very pleasing. Satiny lustrous surfaces beam with a strong brilliance throughout. Splashes of blue and coppery-gold color cling to the smooth silvery surfaces. The eye appeal is exceptional. The 16-D is the KEY to the series in all grades, from a low mintage of 264,000. Most went into circulation, and any example is in demand from collectors, especially in CHOICE Mint State. PCGS 13, CAC 8, CAC 3. The most recent MS64 was an NGC coin, not CAC-approved, which sold for $20,400. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $20,000. While no CAC-approved MS64 has ever sold in auction, a PCGS MS63 CAC sold in the 2016 ANA auction for $18,800. This coin is worthy of a neat collection of Mercury dimes. Good luck! Cert.
