Lot Description
Lot 482 1855 Cent Pattern Judd-168 Original R4 PCGS graded PR64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved.Attractive woodgrained mix of golden tan and olive brown. Looks quite nice to the unaided eye but a glass reveals very light pin-scratched abrasions in the fields, particularly on the reverse. The toning is not original but it was good enough to pass muster at PCGS. Otherwise free of spots or contact marks. A decent but imperfect example of the popular "Flying Eagle" large cent. Our grade is net Proof-55. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 19; 2 finer in 65. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 2/8/1999:2506-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection (lot ticket included).
