Lot Description
FROM THE MHS COLLECTION What a GORGEOUS GEM! WOW! This coin is tops in all regards! A truly magnificent way to start off this impressive collection of Capped Bust quarters! Among the FINEST KNOWN examples of the B-4 die marriage and boasting a SUPERB visual allure, this coin is PERFECTION for any type or date collector! Bold and brilliant, the surfaces gleam with a sensational cartwheel swirl that comes to life when rotated in a light. A gentle kiss of the faintest clear gold really pops, and is complimented by a blush of powder blue, delicate olive, and some accents of deeper russet gold. A couple of stray contact marks seen in the obverse field are all that keeps this sharply struck and wonderfully preserved coin from an even loftier grade designation! The eye appeal is excellent and those tiny marks can truly be overlooked in light of the awesome look! PCGS 8, NGC 4, CAC 7. The most recent PCGS/CAC MS66 sold in our December 2019 Regency Auction, which realized $41,125. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $40,000 but we think this gorgeous coin could bring more. Just two MS66+ examples have ever graded higher at PCGS for the Small Letters Red Book variety and it is tied for FINEST KNOWN in both the Tompkins and Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census listings. A fabulous coin for any type, date, variety collector, or someone putting together a "box of twenty." Bidding will be intense! Cert. Number 34980733 PCGS # 5348
