1865-S Liberty Quarter Eagle. MS-62 (PCGS). Among the four finest examples of the date certified by PCGS. Frosty honey gold with lively luster and far fewer marks than are typically associated with the grade. Not a rare date in circulated grades--23,376 pieces were struck and most of that mintage saw heavy duty in local commerce, with today's survivor apt to be VF or EF. If a Mint State example of the date is on your want list, the story changes dramatically. Just a handful of examples of the date are around today in Uncirculated grades, with the present MS-62 specimen among the finest certified examples of the date extant. Choice for the grade.
