- Lot Description
- 1828 Matron Head Cent. N-3. Rarity-2. Large Narrow Date. MS-64 BN (PCGS).
Bold cartwheel luster enlivens each side of this premium quality 1828 cent. The obverse is a medium olive-brown with sea-green accents, while the reverse is a lighter chocolate-brown with steel-blue highlights and traces of mint red. No singularly mentionable marks or spots. Considerable quality and eye appeal at this grade level, a coin that could hold its own against many specimens in higher graded holders. Beautiful as a date coin and also noteworthy as an example of the die variety, one of a small handful of similarly graded mint state specimens that top the census.
Provenance: From Kagin's October 1983 sale, lot 1112.
PCGS# 36880.
