- 1822/1 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-101. Rarity-1. MS-65 (NGC). Satin-to-softly frosted surfaces are further adorned with pretty toning in an iridescent pinkish-gold hue. A sharp strike extends from the rims to the centers, and the lack of all but a few trivial abrasions confirms this coin as a solidly graded Gem.<br /> The 1822/1 O-101 Bust Half Dollar is a plentiful die marriage in an absolute sense, but the coin we are offering here is a rare Condition Census survivor. The finest examples of the variety known to Donald L. Parsley (<em>United States Early Half Dollar Die Varieties: 1794-1836</em>, 2005 edition) grade MS-63 to MS-65. Stephen J. Herrman (Spring 2010) knows of a single MS-66, as well as a few other Uncs grading MS-63 to MS-65.
