- 1846-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS).
Lustrous yellow gold with satiny surfaces that exhibit lively olive iridescence. Boldly struck for the date and type. Patches of die rust can be seen on both sides, the most prominent area around the date. From a relatively modest mintage for the date of just 4,808 pieces -- only the 1855-C quarter eagle has a lower mintage (3,677 pieces) within the Liberty design type. Scarce in AU and finer; PCGS lists just 15 grading events at a finer level than the present specimen, with just five of those coins called Mint State. Pleasing for the grade.
PCGS# 7741.
