Lot Description
Bolender-1, BB-21 "two leaves" has the "7" in the date nicely repunched over an errant "1", thus resulting in the occasionally-seen "1795/1195" appellation. This light grey piece has hints of fragile golden toning with lighter silver-grey gracing the devices, which in turn permits slightly better apparent sharpness beyond the "very fine" level. A few handling marks are as expected for a moderately circulated early dollar, to whit a couple or three minute contact points at the temple and neck. Smooth, honest circulation shows just a little wear on the high-relief bust, while much interior detail remains intact, and the stars and other devices look as bold as can be. Pleasing, slightly bright pewter-grey surfaces are lightly abraded, with a few hints of ashy olive tone. The eagle's left wing has nicely delineated feathers, virtually complete with original detailing, while the right wing has become rubbed nearly smooth.
