Lot Description
1834 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-102. Rarity-1. Large Date, Large Letters. MS-65+ (PCGS). CAC. Pinkish and peach iridescence dominate the centers, while the borders are more deeply toned in sapphire-blue shades. The surfaces are entirely untroubled beneath a glass and the luster displays a radiant satiny texture. The central elements remain sharply defined despite softness in the peripheries that is typical for the variety. This piece is an important specimen, ranking firmly in the Condition Census for the O-102 dies. It remains significant even within the overall Large Date, Large Letters Guide Bookvariety, with only 3 coins certified finer by PCGS in this category. Traceable back to our January 1981 sale and now available for the first time in a generation. Provenance: From the Naples Bay Collection. Earlier ex our (Stack's) sale of January 1981, lot 540. PCGS Population: 4; 3 finer. PCGS# 6164. NGC ID: 24FY. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
