- Lot Description
- Coinage of the new subsidiary quarter remained strong through 1856 as the Mint sought to replace the old tenor silver pieces withdrawn from commerce during the first years of the California Gold Rush. The Philadelphia Mint alone struck 7,264,000 coins for circulation that year, and this scarce CAC-approved Choice Mint State example is highly recommended for inclusion in a high quality type set.
