Lot Description

113.1 grains. The die state is only slightly later than that of the RR-2 offered above, the crack from the top of the digit 8 in the date into the plow just beginning to widen. A handsome piece, both sides have a nice circulated cameo appearance with deep olive-charcoal color in the fields supporting lighter rose-brown devices. The left obverse border is into the tops of the letters VERMONT, right reverse border likewise into the tops of the letters in DECIMA, but otherwise we note a well executed strike with impressively bold detail overall. We see only a single readily evident flan flaw, and it is inconspicuously placed within the mountains below the sun face. The fields are microgranular, to no great detriment, and there are no significant handling marks. Widely regarded as the first of the Landscape varieties produced, the RR-2 also has a generous enough population overall to be desirable for type purposes. This one presents exceptionally well at the certified Choice VF grade level and is highly recommended for both type and variety purposes.
