- 1787 Vermont Copper. RR-13, Bressett 17-V, W-2255. Rarity-1. BRITANNIA. AU-50 (PCGS).
A superior example of this popular Vermont variety, the seated figure on the reverse is uncommonly bold and fully appreciable. Typically sharper on the obverse, with fairly tight, glossy deep brown surfaces. An incomplete planchet clip is most obvious throughout the lower obverse denticles and upper reverse border. Exceptional in both production quality and surface preservation and presumably in the Condition Census for the die variety, or at least on the cusp of that esteemed group. With an extant population of more than 1,250 coins (per Tony Carlotto), RR-13 vies with RR-16 as the most available die marriage among Vermont coppers. In keeping with the standards of the series, however, the typical survivor is well worn, if not also impaired, and problem free examples in EF and higher grades can be difficult to come by. The specimen offered here ranks in the top six of the BRITANNIA type (Ryder 13) certified by PCGS.
PCGS Population: 6; just 5 finer.
