1866-S Liberty Seated Half Dollar. No Motto. WB-101, Die Pair WB-1, the only known dies. Rarity-4. Late Die State. VF-20 (NGC). The (slightly) more common late die state of the 1866-S No Motto half dollar is identifiable by die clash (as struck) in the lower right portion of the reverse shield. A scarce, key date issue with just 60,000 pieces produced, the '66-S No Motto is particularly rare in attractive problem free preservation, as here. A suitably bold VF, both sides exhibit dominant dove gray patina with tinges of steel gray and pale gold toning intermingled here and there. Free of notable abrasions at the assigned grade level, most areas actually present as smooth.
