Losbeschreibung
Bright, vivid, greenish-gold color and a tinge of pale pink iridescence deliver strong eye appeal. A touch of softness at the left reverse border notwithstanding, this is a sharply struck coin in a product of the Dahlonega Mint with all focal features crisp in the absence of all but light high point rub. Minimally gloss in texture, which feature is noted for accuracy, but much of the frosty luster remains to further tempt the advanced Southern gold collector. The 1846-D has a mintage of 19,303 pieces, a generous total by Dahlonega Mint quarter eagle standards. Indeed, the 1846-D is one of the more available Southern gold issues in today's market, although survivors are scarce with most confined to lower grades through EF. Given the rarity of Mint State examples, this upper end Choice AU as certified by PCGS will see spirited bidding.
