- Manley Die State 1.0. Elegant autumn-orange and rose-brown patina greets the viewer from both sides of this wonderfully original example. Isolated softness affects the letters TY in LIBERTY, which are faint yet discernible, balance of the design elements with plenty of bold detail relative to the assigned grade. Close inspection with a loupe is required to discern wispy handling marks, including a few faint scratches on Liberty's portrait; none of these features are significant in a mid grade Liberty Cap half cent, and the in-hand appearance is smooth and highly attractive. This is the seldom encountered early state of these dies ("Very rare," per Manley), with no clash marks on the reverse and only a single, faint obverse clash mark in between the cap and hair below the letter L in LIBERTY.
