1820 Capped Bust Dime. JR-7. Rarity-2. Small 0. MS-62 (NGC). Nicely antiqued golden-gray patina dominates the outward appearance of this appealing BU type candidate. Well balanced in strike and overall boldly defined, both sides are free of outwardly distracting abrasions. A faint planchet drift mark (as struck) is noted for the upper-right obverse. The present sale notwithstanding, the Large Size (a.k.a. Wide Border) variant of the Capped Bust Dime is a conditionally challenging type that can be difficult to locate even in lower Mint State grades.
