Lot Description
While PCGS reports two other grading events for this issue in Proof-68, only the offered coin has met with strict CAC approval at this grade level. With no PCGS-certified CAM or DCAM specimens reported finer than Proof-67+, this is the single best Proof 1892 Barber half dollar obtainable. A stunning Ultra Gem specimen, the pristine-looking surfaces are dressed in crescents of rose-russet and copper-gray patina that leave areas of apricot-tinged brilliance on both sides. Fully struck, as befits the issue, with eye appeal to spare.<p>The highest mintage Proof Barber half dollar, the first year 1892 was produced to the extent of 1,245 pieces to meet particularly strong demand that the Mint anticipated with the launching of the new dime, quarter and half dollar designs that year. A favorite with type collectors for decades, the Proof 1892 is readily obtainable in lower grades but is scarce to rare above the Choice level. This premium quality Ultra Gem is a CC#1 rarity that is sure to sell for an exceptionally strong bid.
