1818 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-108. Rarity-2. MS-63+ (PCGS). Vivid multicolored iridescent toning is more extensive and varied on the obverse, where is displays a lovely target-like distribution from the border to the center. Both sides are fully lustrous with a billowy satin texture that is undisturbed by significant marks. Well struck throughout, all design elements are boldly to sharply rendered. Unlisted in the Spring 2021 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's AMBPR for Bust half dollars, this piece is a newcomer to the Condition Census for the 1818 Overton-108 dies. Based on Herrman's listing, this piece ranks as CC#2 behind a single MS-65, and ahead of a number of MS-63s. This die pairing is readily attributable by the open top (a.k.a. Pincher) 8s in the date.
