- A top-pop condition rarity and a stunning near-Gem Mint State survivor of this historic Bechtler family gold issue. Beautiful golden-honey color is dominant on both sides, the reverse also with subtle silvery overtones and, toward the borders, hints of pale pinkish-rose patina. That side of the coin is also rotated approximately 45 degrees clockwise from coin alignment - an interesting feature, and we have seen various die rotations in examples of this Kagin number. Sharply struck with a lively satin to semi-reflective finish that provides outstanding eye appeal.
The Kagin-24 dollar with plain edge is the most frequently encountered Bechtler gold coin in numismatic circles, making it an obvious choice for the collector seeking just a single representative from this important private minting establishment. Given the demand for Mint State examples, however, such pieces are actually quite scarce from a market availability standpoint. As one of the two finest certified at PCGS (the NGC Census also tops out at MS-64), the offered coin is rare by any definition and we suspect that it will have no difficulty finding its way into a world class cabinet, in which it will certainly serve as a leading highlight.
