Lot Description: Heck DS5, Breen Die State III. This die state of Sheldon-70 is a remarriage after the reverse was used to strike examples of S-71 in Heck DS1. Dark chocolate-brown patina blankets both sides of this sharply struck, overall boldly defined example. Scattered marks are noted, most small enough to be singularly inconspicuous to the unaided eye, although accuracy compels us to mention a shallow scuff in the reverse field above the left wreath stem, as well as a pair of tiny digs on the same side at the letters NI in UNITED. Some underlying brightness calls the originality of the color into question, but the surfaces are hard and tight, and there is plenty of eye appeal.
