1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 1-B, W-6600. Rarity-4. Obverse Cross After Date, No Cinquefoils, UNITED STATES. VF-30 (PCGS). 146.2 grains. Another high quality example of this major variety, exhibiting nice glossy medium brown color on its hard surfaces. Some scattered marks, obverse periphery not quite smooth, natural depression right of sunface, dull mark under N of ONE on reverse. A handsome coin for the grade, far finer and more original than most in the marketplace. If a collector seeks to go beyond having a single Fugio as a type coin, having an example from the Cross After Date obverse is the natural second addition to a collection, more distinctive and historically important than even the Club Rays subtype.
