Lot Description
Undated (1842-1852?) August Bechtler $1 Gold. K-24. Rarity-3. 27.G., 21.C. Plain Edge. MS-63 (NGC). A lovely Mint State example that would do equally well in an advanced type set or specialized Territorial gold collection. Considerable reflectivity emanates from each side of this attractive and virtually unmarked example, showing deep, mellow reddish-orange color and great eye appeal. All devices are sharply rendered and the eye appeal is certainly well above average for the type. The Kagin-24 dollar with plain edge is the most frequently Bechtler gold coin in numismatic circles, making it an obvious choice for the collector seeking just a single representative from this important private minting establishment. Given the demand for high grade examples, as here, such pieces are actually quite scarce from a market availability standpoint. Indeed, we suspect that this coin will have no difficulty finding its way into a tightly held cabinet, in which it will certainly serve as a highlight.
