Lot Description: The first year of the small sized dollar coin struck for circulation, and late in the year, the design was slightly altered, widening the rim, which makes the placement of the date look nearly attached to the rim. Since these were struck for only a short period late in the year, the Wide Rim is much more difficult to locate than the Narrow, or Regular Rim. Despite its modern vintage, these are quite difficult to find in such a pristine state of preservation, and UNIQUE finer. A delicate pastel toning scheme is dusted across the surfaces with a satiny brilliance. A strong glass will aid in the location of a couple of minor ticks, but they are unobtrusive and have zero impact on the technical or aesthetic quality. PCGS 31, NGC 60. The most recent example sold for $1,320 in October 2020 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $2,000. Just a single MS67+ has ever graded finer, realizing nearly $6,500 in February 2016. A coin destined for a Registry Set of this short lived series. Cert. Number 42128295 PCGS # 99571.00
