Lot Description
Ex Simpson, as noted on the insert. This is a great marvelous GEM example of Paquet's Seated Liberty half dollar design. Liberty is seated on a rock, facing left, right hand supporting a fasces and left hand supporting a union shield. Arrows and olive branch are at the base. The reverse displays as large, perched eagle with a ribbon in its beak, shield against the chest. Struck in copper with a reeded edge, this variety is considered Rarity-5. Variegated iridescent accents show off olive and violet hues over "bronzed" surfaces, similar to what is seen on Mint medals of the era. This is a popular pattern half dollar type! PCGS 1, NGC 0. This coin sold for $3,120 in November 2020 and $3,000 in May 2023. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $4,250. There is just a single PR66 BN graded higher. This is a popular pattern half dollar type, one that is accessible to the novice as well as the advanced collector. Good luck. Cert. Number 40276365 PCGS # 11962
