- 1881 Pattern Cent. Judd-1665, Pollock-1865. Rarity-6+. Proof-65 (PCGS). OGH. The obverse features a left-facing head of Liberty that is very similar to that used later in the regular issue Liberty Nickel series of 1883-1912. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the periphery and the date 1881 is below. The reverse design is very simple with a wreath of corn and cotton partially encircling a Roman numeral I for the denomination. Struck in nickel with a plain edge.<br /> Well mirrored in the fields with satiny, fully impressed devices, this coin would almost certainly support a Cameo designation were it resubmitted for certification. There is no toning apart from a bit of light, mottled, pale-silver iridescence, and no significant blemishes are noted.
