Lot 249 1850 N-21 R2+ PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved.Lustrous medium steel brown with 20% of the mint red remaining on both sides. Nicely struck with radial lines in all the stars. The only marks, and they are insignificant, are a splash of slightly darker brown toning nestled between star 6 and the coronet and a speck of carbon at the leaf tip below the first S in STATES. LDS, die state c, with two rim cud breaks on the reverse (Newcomb's old #10). The cud over TES in STATES is strong but the rim cud over F-A is weak and only visible at the left and right margins. The earlier die lines and points on the obverse are gone. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; none finer.
