- Bradford Pear Collection. Mintage: 52,000. Blatantly original in absolutely every respect, the surface exudes delightful caramel-grey with the faintest touch of apricot undertones, which altogether meshes amazingly well with the crunchy, natural mark-free quality. This is, frankly, an amazing example to serve as the key to a set. If split grades were still in vogue, one might expect XF-40/45, because splashes of silvery-grey on the reverse layer gently over still-lustrous portions, and the sharpness is more than adequate for the "extremely-fine" level or better. Strike is probably about typical for the date, as this likely was not a full-head example when struck, yet compelling, intricate detail still manages to thread its way throughout the design elements. A terrific example that truly borders upon "sensational" at the grade level.
