Lot Description

1713-AA 15 Deniers, or Half Mousquetaire. Metz Mint. Vlack-14b. Rarity-2. VF-30 (PCGS). 18.7 grains. Easily among the best struck 15 deniers of any issue or variety available, both sides are well centered with all design elements crisp. Richly original toning in mottled steel-olive and pewter-gray, a bit rough in texture, most noticeably in the center of the reverse, in which area a few planchet striations are also evident. The obverse différent resembles a rose, hence our Vlack-14b attribution, but better described as a curious five-armed symbol. Provenance: From the Sydney F. Martin Collection.
