- Lot Description
- 30.0 mm. A particularly choice example for the assigned grade with superb medium brown surfaces accented by pale blue iridescence in the prooflike fields. Nuances of pleasant original red remain close to the central motif of the reverse and to a lesser degree in the recesses around some letters of the obverse legend. An issue that was clearly released into circulation, but apparently saved in equal parts, as typical survivors tend to be either Mint State or notably worn. Some Mint State examples are found with ruddy oxidation that tends to remove them from consideration by the most discerning collectors. It is more challenging to find pieces like this one, and as mentioned, this is unusually nice for the grade assigned. In fact, when this sold in our November 2024 sale, another example graded MS-62 by PCGS, the lot just before it, realized $300 less than this.
