Lot Description
If the Mint State coin in the preceding lot gets away, this current offering represents a second opportunity for the advanced early gold enthusiast to acquire a highly desirable example of the 1803/2 BD-4 half eagle. This is a vivid and flashy piece, both sides dressed in deep wheat-gold color and retaining plenty of frosty to semi-reflective luster. The persistent viewer aided by indirect lighting will also discern blushes of pale pinkish-rose iridescence in isolated peripheral areas - very attractive. A trace of high point rub and wispy handling marks confirm a short stint in active commerce which, by extension, confirms the validity of the Choice AU grade from PCGS. There is a lot of "coin" here and excellent value when compared to what it would cost the bidder to secure a similarly attractive Capped Bust Right half eagle in Mint State. Worthy of serious consideration, and also strong bids. BD Die State c/c.
