1812 Classic Head Cent. S-288. Rarity-2. Large Date. AU-58 BN (NGC). OH. This richly original steel-brown and golden-copper example exhibits plenty of good gloss to hard, satiny surfaces. A few wispy marks are noted, but while a carbon deposit at the upper left reverse border is more significant, the scaling is light and does not appear to invade the surface. Well struck with the major design elements sharp, this is an inviting near-Mint example of a conditionally challenging large cent type. Provenance: From the Steven Jay Ball Collection. PCGS# 1564.
