Description du lot
1870 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-987, Pollock-1116. Rarity-6+. Proof-63 (PCGS). This is one of many Standard Silver designs used in the production of U.S. Mint patterns during the late 1860s and early 1870s. The obverse exhibits a right-facing bust of Liberty, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Liberty is wearing a headband inscribed LIBERTY and ornamented with a single star. On the reverse, a wreath of oak and laurel surrounds the denomination 50 CENTS. The inscription STANDARD SILVER is at the border and the date 1870 is below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br />     Soft silver-gray patina with more vivid undertones of golden-apricot iridescence coming into view at direct light angles. With a full strike, vibrant finish and freedom from significant handling marks, the eye appeal of this piece is nearly strong enough to support a near-Gem grade.
