- 184.5 grains. Remarkable frosty to semi-reflective luster radiates from richly original surfaces toned in a blend of autumn, rose, and olive-brown. Fully struck hand with faint crack above, exceptional eye appeal for the issue, only the most minor contact marks. Definitely a superior quality example of this popular type. Produced in large quantities in England as part of the Conder token series, the Kentucky tokens of the early to mid 1790s derive their popular name from the letter K at the top of the pyramid on the reverse, a reference to Kentucky, which was admitted to the Union as the 15th state on June 1, 1792. Whitman-8810 offered here is a scarce variety; most examples in numismatic hands are Plain Edge pieces of the W-8800 attribution.
