Lot Description

A jaw-dropping example of an early Flowing Hair silver dollar. Firstly, a rainbow of colors flashes at the casual viewer, with shades of ocean-blue, yellow, and sunset-orange bringing the classic design to life. Secondly, the surface preservation and quality is superb at this grade level. Smooth flatness on the high points conveys honest circulation. When turned under a lamp, the sharpness of the remaining detail shines along with some luster still visible in the protected areas of the design. Lastly, the fascinating double profile along Miss Liberty's nose and chin offers this to be a neat study piece and a rare example of extreme machine doubling on early coinage. While a double profile is more common on lower denominations, such as Matron Head cents and Capped Bust half dollars, they are much more rare on early dollars. A premium specimen that will bring excitement for specialists and type collectors alike when it comes across the auction block.
