1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Pine Tree Shilling. Large Planchet. Noe-1, W-690. Rarity-2. Pellets at Trunk.. VF-30 (PCGS). 56.33 grains. Well below the 72 grain standard for the issue, definitely on a light-weight planchet even after factoring in the amount of circulation loss. Steel gray with lilac overtones. Obverse nicely centered, rim tight to tops of portions of the legend, legend weak from 5 to 7 o'clock at MA, no serious marks present, usual Noe-1 die clash marks present, reverse with excellent centering, rim to tops of AND AN DOM, weak at M, die break across top of date and to N of AN, somewhat later state than Ford:88 for comparison. Choice for the grade both physically and aesthetically. PCGS# 45369.
