Lot Description
1857-C Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-1, the only known dies. EF-40 (PCGS). Glints of pale copper-rose enliven otherwise olive-khaki surfaces on both sides of this handsome piece. Apart from a touch of typical softness to the central high points, the detail is uncommonly sharp for a lightly circulated gold coin from this Southern branch mint. Although the 1857-C is widely regarded as one of the more readily obtainable Charlotte Mint half eagles, it is still scarce in the finer circulated grades, especially with problem free and attractive surfaces, as here. PCGS# 8272. NGC ID: 25V3. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
