Lot Description
THE E.D.J. SET, FROM THE EUEL DURWOOD JONES COLLECTION Tied for second FINEST graded at NGC, and among the 15 HIGHEST graded at that firm! WOW! While the mintage was the highest recorded since 1925, this year saw the stock market crash and the end of the series. It is quite probable that many 1929 quarter eagles were melted after FDR recalled privately held gold coins. NGC has graded just a half dozen finer. Sensationally brilliant luster highlights wonderfully preserved surfaces and brig ht yellow-gold coloration. Sharply impressed devices contrast against the generally smooth fields. Some light lines and ticks account for the assigned grade, but have minimal impact on the eye appeal. PCGS 15, NGC 9. There has not been an NGC-graded MS65+ sold since December 2018. More recently non-"+" NGC MS65s have sold in the $4,248 to $5,349 range. The current NGC Price Guide value is listed at $6,750 and the Collectors Universe value is listed at $9,000. NGC has graded six in MS66 finer. The most recent one of those brought $20,700 over a decade ago! Bound for a great set! Cert. Number 2033257015 PCGS # 7953
