Lot Description
1907-S Liberty Head Eagle. MS-62+ (PCGS). CAC. Frosty rose-orange surfaces are fully struck over even the most intricate design elements. The final San Francisco Mint issue in the long-lived Liberty Head eagle series, the 1907-S is also the scarcest issue of this type from the 20th century. Although the mintage of 210,500 is fairly generous for the era, few examples have been located in European bank hoards of classic U.S. Mint gold coins. Most examples probably remained in government storage until destroyed through melting in 1937. A fleeting bidding opportunity for the astute gold collector. Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection - Rhone Set. PCGS Population: 2; 37 finer (MS-66+ finest). CAC Stickered Population: 15 in all Mint State grades. PCGS# 8765. NGC ID: 2686.
