- 1859 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-101. Type I Reverse. MS-64 (NGC). OH. Absolutely gorgeous tab toning leaves the centers white and untoned, while the peripheries exhibit deep electric-blue and rose-brown patina. Minimally marked and seemingly high-end for the grade. A very lovely example of a coin of which 1,000 were thought to have been minted. In 1859 numismatic excitement was at a high, and the Mint felt there would be a tremendous and unprecedented demand for Proofs. This did not prove to be the case, and hundreds of them were melted, leaving a net distribution of just more than half the mintage quantity.
