Lot Description

Breen Die State II. Attractive deep golden-brown with intermingled olive-copper color that is more prevalent on the reverse. Marks are few and insignificant to the coin's quality and eye appeal, accuracy alone compelling us to mention a pair of tiny nicks on the obverse below the letter Y in LIBERTY and a small dig at central reverse, above the letter N in CENT. More prominent are planchet flaws (as made) in the right obverse field, close to the border, and on the reverse at the word OF. Detail is generally bold for a mid-grade Draped Bust cent, although the reverse is typically soft through the wreath, and the letters NE in ONE are barely legible due to the die having been clogged with foreign matter in that area. With an EAC grade that is just below that assigned by PCGS, this piece sits just outside of Condition Census for the Sheldon-248 dies per the 2000 Bland listing. It is still a significant survivor from these dies, of course, and as further confirmed by an illustrious numismatic provenance.
