- 1873 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Arrows. Proof-65 (NGC).
Gorgeous toning which encompasses deep teal around the rims, changing to russet nearby, then to more muted silver-gray with bright yellow accents on the frosted devices. The strike is sharp. The mintage for the year in Proof was 550 pieces, a tiny sum especially for this important short lived type with the arrows at the date. Normal dies with a trace of the errant 3 in the dentils below the right arrow shaft, and with ST of TRUST connected by a shallow die scratch that arcs to their bases. Demand is always high for this type in Gem Proof grades, especially so with this degree of attractive toning.
PCGS# 6434.
Provenance: From the Richard Jewell Collection. Earlier ex: Ashland City Collection.
NGC Census: 16; 9 finer (PR-66 finest) within designation.
