Lot Description
1854 Round 25 Cents. BG-216. Rarity-6. Liberty Head. MS-61 (PCGS). Iridescent reddish-rose highlights enhance honey-gold surfaces. Struck from an advanced die state, BG State II, as shown by extensive evidence of die rust on both sides, especially the obverse. This variety remains rare despite knowledge of same that dates back at least to W. Elliot Woodward's sale of April 28 to May 1, 1863. Lot 389 in that catalog offered a specimen described as "pierced." This is an appealing Mint State example that has much to offer advanced California small denomination gold collectors. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection. PCGS Population: 1; 19 finer (MS-64 finest). PCGS# 10401. NGC ID: 2BHK. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
